six projects

PROJECT 1: Commercial art direction, stills

Lead set designer for a repeat client, putting out several campaigns a year.

After being given the concept of ‘Painterly’ and some image references of artwork by Egon Schiele and Emily Brown by the creative, I got to work fleshing out and her idea and making it a reality. I particularly loved getting my teeth stuck in to this as I was able deep dive into research and make use of my art history background.

PROJECT 2 : Commercial set design stills and film

Assistant production designer for a large budget campaign with several set ups and additional assets including still like product shots, and social media film. While the concept was ‘My London’ , Location shooting was not feasible, and his was a set job, shot completely in the studio.

Working closely with the lead creative, who concepted the “My London” idea and shared an initial mood board, I developed the deck informed by research which included visiting and photographing beauty locations.

I compiled image references which reflected what was achievable in terms of available set pieces, build time, budget and studio space. While the lead production designer sketched the sets, I managed prop selects which was informed by generating ideas for action shots and for interacting with the set.

Below are some example deck pages, some BTS shots, and the final images and campaign film.

PROJECT 3: Art direction, music video

As art director for a music video which would in cuts from a feature film as a starting point, I knew I had to design a set that matched tonally and would not betray the aesthetic of film. After some moodboard-ing, I like to include examples of my own previous work in treatments to give a clearer idea of what is achievable within a given budget.

PROJECT 4: Commercial set design, stills and film

Assistant set designer for a commercial film. From the story board written by creatives and concept of ‘cut the jargon’ I worked to create a set that is simultaneously bright and poppy, but clean and simple, which would build on the brand identity of the client.

After studying moodboards, I settled on reducing the number of colours used to a few key colours, and have all set elements and props matched. This gave a bold and playful look to the film, and tied the aesthetic together while shooting different products.

Below are examples set deck pages, some BTS and final assets.

PROJECT 5: Social content, Editorial

I concepted and designed ‘head’ boxes in the 9:16 aspect ratio to for social media content editorial beauty story celebrating pride week. I like the playfulness of a physical space meeting the digital space.

Project 6: Found Chroma Green (personal project)

Curious about the limits of the ultra key feature on premier pro, I began filming found green objects and keying them with other ‘home video’ style footage.

I like the rough cut quality of the videos, and the fact that you can tell what the green objects are. Here I am not using the tool to create a slick edit, but using the tool in a very self-aware way ( I know you can key colours other than green) giving the films in this ongoing series some humour.
